Urban Dynamics

This module guides trainees in evaluating the growth of cities and the health of urban vegetation particularly in highly polluted environments. Lessons include:

• Mapping urban heat island effect across cities of varying population density

• Evaluating vegetation health using high-resolution data at the neighborhood level to identify regions of prospective conservation and restoration activities

• Modeling the expansion of impervious surfaces inside and immediately outside of cities

• Using nightlights datasets to model relative urban growth and electrification across rural areas
