Agriculture & Land Use Change

This module teaches trainees to evaluate among the most critical aspects of environmental change analysis: modeling the extent of land cover and land use shifts in regions of interest. This module also guides participants in basic agricultural classification and yield mapping. Lessons include:

  • Using pre-set land cover / land use change datasets such as Dynamic World to evaluate high resolution changes in key land types

  • Comparing unsupervised and supervised classification algorithms to perform tailored land cover / land use change analyses, and performing accuracy assessments of these models

  • Using pre-set crop classification models to calculate the distribution of crop types across regions of interest

  • Evaluating relevant agricultural metrics such as soil moisture and evapotranspiration over time
