Humanitarian Settings

Our humanitarian settings module teaches participants to apply high resolution remote sensing toward filling key data needs in common humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations, particularly in refugee camp environments. Our lessons include:

  • Comparing population estimates from various sources in highly dense, small regions of interest

  • Using ultra-high resolution data to map key infrastructural features, such as shelters, roads, water sources, and public services

  • Mapping distance and access to emergency services across camp environments

  • Monitoring small-scale fire spread in densely populated settings

  • Uploading and quickly integrating user-collected data into the coding environment
